Bringing clarity to building codes and standards – from interpretation and application through development and change.
Individuals, project teams, organizations, and public agencies depend on clear guidance when navigating building codes and standards. Backed by more than 27 years of experience across construction practice, municipal government, and national code and standards development, I support clients with practical, experience‑based insight.
Getting my start working hands‑on in a variety of new construction and renovation projects, I developed the foundational real‑world experience I continue to draw upon today. For more than 16 years, I served the construction industry and the public through a career in municipal government interpreting and applying building and zoning codes, including service as a designated building official. That depth of experience allows me to support clients from multiple perspectives – designers, builders, owners, attorneys, and individuals seeking clarity – by accurately identifying applicable requirements and objectively relating them to actual conditions.
After transitioning into a full‑time role advocating for reasonable building codes, my work has focused on building code and standards development, representing stakeholders in technical discussions, proposal development, and advocacy. My approach emphasizes clear language, reasonable interpretation, and cost‑effective solutions that balance safety, constructability, and innovation, helping clients move confidently through the use, application, and development of building codes and standards.
If you are navigating formal building code and standards development or advocacy processes – or addressing project‑level code challenges – contact me to discuss how I can support your objectives.
